I DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS IS ZOOOMED IN - SORRY! This is how I discovered my husband was a fabric "savant". He not only picked out the fabric panel, he picked out the coordinating fabrics for the border and then WOWed me by picking out this batik for the background. I was floored. It was the gateway to us enjoying this hobby together. He's since picked out many fabrics for future projects, even has one of his own planned from BLOCK magazine - the houdstooth quilt. This is a quick baby quilt I put together for another co-worker going out on maternity leave with leftovers from the Bugs on a Fence quilt. I was thrilled with how all the negative space made the bright colors pop.

Bobbing Sailboats

While in Sarasota, FL I found a great quilt shop which had lots of beautiful batik beach fabric. I decided to make a quilt for my sister who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She wanted to recuperate from her surgery at her beach house. Hanging up at the quilt shop was a "Baby Sails" quilt. It gave me the idea to use sailboats. I used Atkinson's "Lucky Stars" pattern and substituted sailboats for the stars because I wanted a lap quilt size. Adding 3 borders brought the quilt to the size I wanted. I always use flannel fabric for the backing for extra warmth and snuggle-ness. (Is that a word?)

Scrap Quilt

I wanted to make a scrap quilt. I cut all of the pieces that were not big enough to get a 10" square out of into 5" and 2 1/2" pieces. When I got done I realized that I had colors divided by brights and muteds. This is what I made from the brights. The pattern is Jelly Turnover from the Moda Bakeshop.

Starbright Baby Quilt

I retired, bought a new machine and decided I want to learn how to quilt. This is my very first quilt ever! I was so excited to get it finished so I could give it to my friend before her first baby arrived. Her baby room theme was elephants, in coral & gray. I appliquéd the elephant, embroidered baby "Brynlee" and hearts & other elephants. I didn't know about all the fabulous tutorials by MSQC when I made this quilt. If I had I would have bought a charm pak instead of spending so much time picking out fabric and cutting. I put my old rusty sewing skills to the test! Since this quilt I have learned so much from Jenny's tutorials. The 2nd quilt "Sail Away" became a reality after I watched Jenny's tutorial at least 10 times. I have a long way to go before I can call myself a quilter but I am certainly enjoying the journey!

Wild Dresden Coin

I love bright colors and wild prints just as much as I love more traditional collections. I purchased two layer cakes just waiting on the perfect pattern and found it in the Dresden Coin. I did make mine longer than the MSQC video instructs. This will fit a full size bed with plenty of drop on each side. My only problem now is that all of my daughters love this quilt and are begging me for it. :)

Christmas Tree Wall Hanging

Never too early to begin Christmas decorating! I made two of these....one for my daughter and one for myself. They are simple adorable. I saw the pattern in BLOCK. The photo doesn't do it justice....the metallic shine in this line is gorgeous! I hand appliqued the boughs in gold sparkle embroidery floss. We thought it would be cute with presents under the tree....I may still add them.

This pattern doesn't have a name because I just played around with half square triangles after seeing a website that showed all the possibilities! I made it for my very first granddaughter...the first GIRL, after having three sons of my own, and three grandsons! My daughter in law asked for aquas and reds( I added a few grayish tapes). I wasn't sure about the color combination, but I was amazed at how it came out! One of my favorites! It was quilted by a professional longarmer.
