I have been stitching since I was a young girl. My mom taught me needlepoint and embroidery. From there I moved to counted cross stitch and crazy quilts, but I was bitten by the quilting bug when I discovered how awesome sewing machines are. I now piece and quilt my own quilts, and bind them myself and even have two requests from others to quilt a top someone else pieced.

Disappearing Four Patch
My four, now five, year old daughter asked for a quilt for her big girl bed and it to be purple, yellow, black, blue, and green. I found the perfect fabric (Lovely by RJR) and this is the result.

Under the Sea
My seven, now nine year old son asked for a quilt for his bed, and he wanted an under the sea quilt. He even picked out fabric he wanted incorporated. I ended up doing raw edge applique of every fish, rock, coral, etc. And I quilted it myself as well, my favorite part. This is the result.

Blue Ridge 1600 Florida Style
I wanted to try my hand at machine quilting, so my husband bought me my first sewing machine, a manual Brother. A friend recommended I watch the jelly roll race on You Tube. I did. I decided I was going to make my very first machine quilt for my mom, who lives in northern Florida. I found a jelly roll that sang Florida and my mom, and set out to finish my very first machine pieced and quilted quilt. I had not learned how to use my quilting foot or how to do free motion, so my quilting is straight line. I had also not learned how to do bindings very well, but my mom loved it and uses it all the time.

Jellyroll Race
I made this jellyroll race quilt for my husband as a Christmas gift. The things I remember most about this quilt though was that I got the flu and didn't get it finished in time to put under the tree on Christmas Eve. We put our children to bed so Santa could make his appearance and went to my sewing room to try and finish it. As I was intently trying to finish the FMQing, I was startled by my son who was about six at the time, who said in a sleepy voice, "mom, what are you doing.... Santa won't come until you go to bed.". After I tucked him back in bed with the promise I would go to bed, I took the quilt off my machine, wrapped it up with a note to finish it later, and went to bed. I finished it up soon after.

This is a quilt that I created for my Quilt Guild's Challenge a few years ago. The Theme was Square Dance and the only restriction was that it had to be wall hanging. I used my square dancing fabric and added some charms.

Patriotic Jellyroll Race
I needed a quick project for a charity auction. I had a patriotic Jellyroll in my stash and thought it would be perfect. I quilted it myself, my favorite part of the quilting process. The quilt sold for a nice sum and the money went to a local charity.

My sister LOVES smiley faces. For her birthday one year, my mother suggested that she would like a quilt, so I found this fabric and made a simple patchwork quilt with a matching pillow. She was all smiles when she received it. I pieced, free motion quilted, and bound the quilt on my tiny manual sewing machine, which I have since upgraded.

Crazy Quilt Toddler Style
My son saw me working on a crazy quilt -- he was about four or five at the time, now nine. He asked me to make one for him, so I let him pick out most of the fabrics (I threw in a few solid or semi solids ones in for good measure). He even picked out some of the embellishments he wanted. Since I was making this quilt for a young child, I didn't want to add buttons, beads, and other small things that could become a choking hazard, so I embroidered the entire quilt, piecing it by hand, and tying it to finish.

Phillips Fiber Arts Mariners Compass adapted
I bought the templates for a Mariner's Compass from Phillips Fiber Arts. When I actually made the compass, it was not what I had expected: it is folded and results in several layers of fabric instead of a truly pieced project. Oh well -- my DIL likes it as it is in her colors.
