I live in Waterloo, New York, a small town which is the birthplace of Memorial Day. I'm the only male quilter I know of in the area. I've been sewing and quilting for 40+ years. I prefer scrap quilts. I'm a hand quilter, making unsuccessful attempts at machine quilting. I can't say why I quilt, sometimes I wonder myself and think I should stop.

Originally made this for my nephew, he lives on a farm in a log cabin, hence the outside squares. It was a pattern in a book, not my design. I can't remember which book it was in. It's double bed size, and hand quilted.

Pineapple Quilt
I took a class at the LQS, in paper piecing. We did Christmas potholders. I then found the foundation design for the pineapple pattern and created this quilt. It's not quilted yet, but is layered for hand quilting.

No real story, flipping through old quilting magazines one day, I came across this pattern and HAD to do it. It's not quilted yet. In the upper left-hand corner, you'll see a block turned the wrong way. Luckily I hadn't quilted the top when I saw it. It has since been unsewn and turned the right way.

Buggy Barn Table Topper
I absolutely love this flannel fabric. I bought this piece to see if I liked working with it and it was a hit! I think I'll make a quilt out of 9 of the panels. The lady that does the long arm quilting for me quilted around the pattern, which makes it look even more like applique. This is a very quick project!

This quilt, when finished will be for the family cabin we are building in the mountains. I need to add the border yet, but need your advice. I was considering the dark red windowpane flannel for the border. Should I use the same backing as the border? Can you use flannel as a backing on a quilt or is that too heavy? What about flannel for the binding? Thanks in advance!

An American Classic
