Penny's Quilt

I love this quilt .... I stressed on what quilt to make My sister Penny for her birthday .... she is very fussy ... and then I found this MSQC pattern called Penny Lane ... and so I took it as a sign ... and I made this quilt for her ... I changed the fabric but I loved the way it turned out .. and I wanted to keep it for myself ... but I gave the quilt to My sister ..... who was less than happy with it ... she said "I don't like those colors" ... I was crushed ... I told her to bring it back and I would gladly make her another one .. she could pick out the fabric ... but no ... she kept the quilt.... I found out she loves it now ... and is very protective of it .... this makes me happy because I loved it.

Surprise

This started out with two Bon Bon Bebe charm packs, white Kona Cotton yardage, 16 yellow 2 1/2" squares and an "I don't know what I am going to make yet .... just want to make some flying geese". After watching Jenny Doan's "The Dutchman's Puzzle Quilt" tutorial to make the flying geese, I came across her new tutorial called "Love Notes Star Quilt" and decided to combine the two patterns and before I knew it a quilt top made of mostly half square triangles emerged. The finished quilt measures 59"x59" and is a very generous lap size. I quilted it on my home sewing machine by stitching in the ditch.

Castlewood Seven Eights

My quilting shop offered a fun class called Seven Eights which highlighted using a precut jelly roll. I chose Castlewood designed by Jan Patek from Moda Fabrics. By stitching a patchwork border with the leftover pieces from the same line, I was able to make a larger quilt. I decided that using straight line quilting on a diagonal emphasized the design of the quilt. I also used a variety of decorative stitches on my sewing machine to quilt some of the plain sections in the patchwork border. It is a versatile pattern that I would probably try again but in another colorway.

Scrappy Fun
