I had boxes and boxes of Kaffe Fasset scraps & yardage going back years. This quilt and a few others in progress are great for using up the stash. The background is my go-to background for Kaffe fabrics- Kona Cotton- Slate. Then using a more plain fabric I cut a 10 inch square and also a 10 inch square of my 4 strips. I then sewed these right sides together all the way around. I cut them in a even X and the made squares from the pieces arranging them so I had the plainer fabric in a pinwheel design. I used three Kaffe Fassett Spicy palette charm packs and 2 yards of Kaffe classics aboriginal orchid dot fabric for the background. Charm pack left overs were used to make the half square triangle corner embellishments and accent squares. The double square star pattern was very easy to assemble. Coral minky backing went well with the spicy palette fabric. The long arm quilter did a great job enhancing the pattern. I fell in love with the fabric line the minute I opened it up. On this quilt, I decided to make the hour glass pattern. I made 60 blocks, and chose a dark purple for the backing. I used the stippling design for the quilting. I planned on giving this to my 2nd Granddaughter for Christmas 2018, but didn't get it finished in time. I pressed the block after it was all sewed up. It didn't "stretch" as much when I did it that way. The blocks have so many possibilities or looks. I laid mine on the floor in different ways, took pictures with my camera phone so I could remember what they all looked like, then picked the one I thought was best for me. So, have fun playing!
