I watched my mom and aunt create beautiful quilts but was always too busy to have them teach me. My aunt passed and my mom has dementia so I am on my own, learning from Jenny and digging through all the fabric and tools my aunt and mom left me. Wish I had taken the time before, but I still think they’d be proud knowing they made me a quilter.

Pinwheel baby quilt
I found this pattern on Moda. I used a Gingham Girls charm pack. It was my first FMQ attempt, was very nervous at first but ended up relaxing and enjoying the process!

Rising Star Quilt
I loved Mr. Doan’s Design and color scheme for his Rising Star quilt so decided to try to duplicate it! I used Sun Print 2018 2.5" Strips Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics and Kona Steel. My local LAQ did a custom design for the quilt and I love how it came out! It is a wedding gift for my step-son and bride.

I loved the Goodnight Irene pattern and decided to use American Heritage 10” squares. This is a gift for a dear boss who is retiring. She has a classic style and she said I picked her exact color scheme! My local LAQ advised me to keep the quilting simple with such a busy top so she went with a wave pattern and I think she was right!

Here lies my second attempt at FMQ. I used Hop Skip and a Jump - American Jane by Moda Fabrics. Somehow I wound up with 81 little squares in the center and Jenny’s tutorial has 64. Not sure how I managed that but Oh well, it’s done!

This Little Pig
I almost didn’t want to share this. I made it for my daughter for Christmas. When she was little she declared herself a “Pigatarian” and refuses to eat pork. She doesn’t know what to do with it, but it makes a comfy cushion for an uncomfortable loveseat I have in my sewing room. The fabric is This Little Pig by Elizabeth’s Studio.

Dresden Quilt
This traditional quilt was made with scraps of 1930's fabrics in my stash. The blades were machine pieced and the plates were then hand appliques to the background squares. The fabrics in this quilt remind me of my Grandma Nan and Great Grammy Rose. These women were the angels who taught me to sew, knit, crochet and embroider. My Great Grammy Rose was the quilter in the family and my Grandma Nan made beautiful garments and crochet. This quilt is a tribute to them.

Off The Grid
I've never done a "modern" quilt with negative space and no border. I took the class 'Off The Grid' taught by Lee Heinrich at QuiltCon 2015 to stretch me out of my traditional layout comfort zone. We made the blocks ahead of time and then played with different modern layouts in class.
