When I found out one of my friends had brain cancer I decided to make her a quilt that she could take to chemo. She was having problems seeing and found aqua a soothing color. This was the first Jacob's ladder quilt that I made. It is now my favorite pattern and this is my favorite quilt that I have made.

Flowers!

My Aunt likes quilts! Every now and then I will get a picture of a quilt she has come across. This one was made from all the leftovers from a queen size quilt which was done on point so I sure didn’t need to make as many blocks.

Flowers on Point

This is the REAL flowers quilt. My Aunt saw it somewhere and sent me the picture asking for a queen sized bed quilt. We tried finding the pattern but failed so I winged it! On our belated annual visit I took all of the flower blocks so she could do the layout. She also along with the whole entourage picked out the borders and backing. I’m really into what I call infinity binding. Using the same fabric as the last border so your eye just keeps going. It isn’t dominated by a suddenly different fabric. It may not show well, but I stitched around each petal with matching color of thread, then did a center with a gold thread, the white background has a hook feather I like to use as a filler, and last the border…recently a pretty butterfly meander came to my attention. I was able to enlarge it on my iPad, then trace the butterfly to get a stencil I just traced around with a chalk pencil as I went.

Binding Tool Star in bedroom colors

This was posted pre-quilted. It's now finished and some viewers wanted to see it completed. So here is how I did mine. The two bottom photos...one is the center design, the white flecks are from the freezer paper that was stuck in all the threads. The one on the right is a closer look at the quilting. I had not put a border around it, till after the body of the quilt was finished. I know that the colors don't quite match, but it's mine and it's ok with me. I couldn't find the tutorial on the MSQC site down below, but it's called Binding Tool Star. I am sure most if not all of us have seen it.

Sea Dancers

Ok, the pattern really is called Ice Dancers. But I thought this would be neat in beach colors. I didn’t have the fabric amounts specified in the pattern and I surely didn’t need an 80 table runner so I thought I would give it a try in these colors that I had plenty on handy. My funny little fat fish I quilted into the medium blue border. The center is a small meander too look like brain coral and the outside border is supposed to look like fan coral waving along the edge.

Chicken Quilt 2

Last year I made a chicken themed quilt for a woman who raises chickens and sells eggs. Her husband asked if I would make her another, to use when he steals hers, LOL. 50" x 58" lap quilt, using Dan Morris Fabrics, and a "Three Yard Quilt" pattern called Farmhouse Chic. I usually use a yard and a half for each fabric instead of just one yard each, so I can enlarge the borders and binding and allow for easier cutting. If you ever made a 3 yard quilt, you will know what I mean.

Christmas Runner

I took one of my first Christmas Dresden runners to our quilt group meeting, for Show & Tell. It was liked so well, it was hinted that I give one, for our Christmas party as a door prize. However, when the meeting was over I gave it to Carol, the one that hinted for me to give one for our party. Carol seemed so surprised and happy! I was glad to see her smile. She recently lost her husband of almost 50 years and her daughter age 40 to Covid. So.. this will be the one I’ll give for our Christmas party. I hope whoever gets it will be half as happy as Carol seemed to be. When she got home she sent me a picture of it on her island and thanked me again. I hope every one of you is able to gather with loved ones this Christmas-Toogie

Flannel snowman quilt

My local quilt shop turned a flannel snowman panel into a throw kit. I had to make this. I added a border. The back is beautiful flannel as well. So cute. I made this for a friend for Christmas.
