Springtime for Sarah
I made this for my daughter Sarah. I really enjoyed making the Disappearing Nine-Patch; it's one of my favorite patterns due to its versatility. It's also pretty easy; this was the third quilt I made. I cut a bundle of fat quarters into 5" charms and used the leftovers for the border; and I used a white jelly roll for the sashing.

Autumn for Denissa
After "Springtime for Sarah" was shared on FaceBook, Sarah's friend Denissa asked if I would make her one called "Autumn for Denissa." When she announced her plans to be married the following October, I found some fall-themed fabrics. I decided on the Warm Wishes quilt. I didn't have a pattern; I just looked at the picture and figured out how to do the blocks. I added a piano-key border and top-stitched with gold metallic thread. When she returned from the out-of-state wedding shower, Sarah informed me that Denissa had burst into tears when she pulled the quilt from the gift bag, and hugged it for a good long time. Guess she liked it!

Lauren's Birdie Quilt
This is the 2nd quilt I made. I used the 3 Dudes pattern and a fat quarter bundle from JoAnn's. The backing is leftover faux suede that I had used to cover some chair cushions for my daughter Lauren's living room. It's quite a bit thicker than regular quilting fabric, so instead of a regular binding, I just folded it over to the front of the quilt, folded it in about 3/8" and stitched it down. I was too dumb and inexperienced to know that's NOT how it's done, LOL! But Lauren loves it; it's very warm with that faux suede backing, and she's been using it a lot during this brutal New England winter!

I had never made a landscape quilt before but now that I'm retired, I have time on my hands to explore new things. I designed this quilt to capture the homes and summer cottages we lived in while raising a family. It's now hanging in our summer cottage and always starts a conversation with friends and family about memories from each house.

Blooms in Spring
This quilt was made as a wedding present for my granddaughter and her new husband when they married in May 2013. Her favorite color was pink and his favorite was orange so I tried to incorporate those colors in the quilt by means of the appliqued tulips, border and backing. In piecing the background for the flowers, I tried to coordinate the jelly roll strips color-wise to simulate the ground from where the flower blooms and the sky from sunrise to night. I quilted it with a serpentine stitch and a heart in each corner.

I wanted to try this quilt with batiks because I had sort of a vision as to how it would look. Once it was done, it was so bright and cheerful I gave it to my mother-in-law for her room in the nursing home to brighten things up a bit.
