I am blessed with a wonderful husband who appreciates the beauty and workmanship of quilts. And even though he doesn't understand why I need to keep collecting fabric, he's always willing to seek out quilt shops when we travel! We are the parents of 2 fabulous adults and a very sweet beagle. I teach 7th grade English and love my 12 and 13-year-olds. I have been sewing since junior high school, when I discovered I could stretch my clothing allowance by making clothes instead of buying (cotton dress prints were $1/yard then). Many years later I discovered quilting and it is now my favorite pasttime (obsession!). I like using precuts because it saves time selecting fabric and cutting. Most quilts I'm currently making are for two church ministries: prayer quilts for our small mountain community, and baby blankets and quilts for the Navajo Nation WIC. When I retire in May 2018 I'll miss my students, but I'm looking forward to more time to quilt and travel. I've always made quilts that were traditional patterns or used reproduction fabrics, but last Christmas I designed and made my son a "modern" quilt and enjoyed it so much, I'm branching out and learning more! I love that quilting provides me with "sisters" and "brothers" wherever I go; it's that common love of color and form and fabric that seems to bind us.
