This is a paper pieced Christmas tree wall hanging. It is sized perfect for a standard door in width and length. I modified the pattern by adding "gift" pockets to the bottom, and button holes to insert battery operated LED lights from the backside. It worked wonderfully for a countdown to Christmas (buttons for hanging one ornament a day in December) as well as a great spot to put Christmas cards from friends and family.

Disappearing 4 Patch

I just finished this quilt for my daughter-in-law who loves summer and the beach. I chose a large pattern to show off the Moda Sanibel fabric. I followed the Disappearing 4 Patch tutorial from MSQC and did a twist on that. I snowballed some of the corners to give the illusion of butterflies. I also chose some complementary fabric to go with the collection. I love the blueberry fabric for the large border and the bright polka dot fabric - like watermelon - for the small border and binding. The back has the Sanibel Adirondack blue chairs on it. I love the challenge of matching the fabric on the back where the seam is. I had it quilted by a local long arm quilter to give the illusion of ocean waves on the quilt.

Flower Garden Quilt

I used Jenny's Flower Garden Quilt made with " Lovely" charm packs, to create this quilt. It was quilted by a longarmer, since I don't have the skills to do a big project like this. It was a gift given to my brother in law and wife for their cottage. I made it in gratitude for their generous help and care and support during the illness and death of my 35 year old son from cancer, and a two year serious illness of my husband. They generously shared their cottage at anytime for my son to use during his illness. It was his favorite place to be. they were there for my husband and me whenever we needed anything. I love the colors of this quilt, and they work very well in the "shabby chic" decor of their cottage. They LOVED it, and it's one of my favorites! Thanks for looking!

Lemoyne Star

This quilt was made in response to a Project Quilting challenge in 2014. PQ challenge prompts are given on Sunday and the finished quilt has to be posted by the following Sunday. One week to make a quilt. The challenge was across the sky. I decided to use a variety of blue prints from my stash to make the big stars. The quilt is 72x72 inches. Tree of Birds

Another rescue quilt...I seem to be a magnet for others UFO boxes or bags. This top I feel certain was a kit and living where we do I would guess it could have come from Lee Wards in the 1950's. The previous owner had done the embroidery on the birds and pinned scrutiny in place. The quilt top was then stopped in a damp basement with the steel pins still in the cloth. When given to me it had today marks and some brown straining from the paper in which it was wrapped. Lots of lemon juice, sunlight, diluted bleach and removed most of the damage. I then sought the help of another mentor among the group of quilters at the local senior center to learn how to applique the pieces in place. Several years and I am sure millions of stitches the top was finished. The quilts at Rock River Center agreed to hand quilt my treasure and I had opportunity to stitch on it once I in awhile. This one is very special to me.

MIssouri Star Pattern in blue

This is a recue quilt. Donated items in a box to our Quilt group were sorted and this item a Missouri Star was very sad looking. It had a button in the center & was gathered up in pleats & was soiled. Think the maker wanted to do a pillow . It had batting attached but was all in a wad and no backside. Soon I found a few more unsewn pieces in the box. So I gathered tossed item from the trash and took it home, I carefully took it apart and washed her. Yup good as new. Later the next week I found in our cupboard materials that matched. So I drew the pattern pieces from the finished item and added 1/4 inch seam and made another Missouri Star. Not enough Material to do more as I needed some for the back side too. Decided a lap or couch size would work though. This is how she came out. Giving her to a friend in the north to keep her warm, blue is her favorite color.

Prairie Flower Quilt

Aria's Sparkle Quilt

Little Flags

I made this small flag quilt for the Navy Wounded Warrior program. The pattern was in a magazine, but I cut the pattern out and tossed the magazine. It is a great way to use up small scraps. Pieces are 1 1/2" wide and just 6 inches long. Just so happens I have a whole basket of this size pieces of red, white, and blue fabric. I hope the veteran who receives this quilt knows how much I care and appreciate his or her service.

Chocolate Delights

For last Valentine's Day, I bought this delicious layer cake from Missouri Star Quilt Co. The top was from Jenny's Present Quilt video, and was completed in a few weeks. Then, I took some classes at Sew Right, a wonderful local fabric store, and had 2 large quilts and 5 small quilts to finish. This summer began with my pledge to finish my chocolate quilt. The back has 20 more chocolate squares with sashings in between. I even practiced free motion quilting designs. My husband is a very special guy, and this quilt is for him. Small Christmas Wall Hanging

Each year my husband exchanges gifts at work . He works at our church. So this year for the Pastor I made this small wall hanging of the Lord's Prayer. I have several of these in my stash box. I framed it with Stained Glass Window 2 1/2 jelly roll strips from a large Jelly Roll I got from Jenny Dolan at Missouri Star. Turn out well and I even quilted the item myself. Just learning how to do that with a machine by the way not by hand.

Erika's Paint Box

Most of the time, when I start a quilt, I don't know who will be the recipient until I'm halfway through. So this quilt is going to be Christmas gift to my son and his wife. She is an art teacher, and as I began making this quilt, the more I looked at it, the more it reminded me of watercolor bricks of paint...thus the name! I used the MSQC illusion pattern but used layer cake 10" squares. Then I added one giant shadow to make it look like the whole top had a shadow, because the quilt needed to be King-sized. I tried to make it look like the sun was shining on the upper left corner, down to the bottom right so it followed the light spectrum of a rainbow...red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

My "Deer" Family

This is a quilt that was given to my son and his wife for a Christmas present. I used the same pattern... "MSQC Illusion", that I did for my "Erika's Paint Box" quilt (see previous post) but it is smaller and I added a border around it. The fabric matches the colors of their living room, and it has a winter, woodsy theme with deer, foxes, snow, and trees. I pieced the back with leftover fabric.

The Blues!

I ove working with white and blue and device to make two "twin" quilts: they are made using exactly the same amount of HST and the same colours: I made HSTs and divided them into two identical piles and them sew them together using two different patterns. The result are two quilts with the same size, the same colours, the same backing and the same binding ... But two different quilts!! Very simple and very effective, I think! I have called them "Out of the Blue" and "Kind of Blue". Hope you like them.

Fabric Fling

This quilt used all my flowered fat quarters in my stash. I had collected flowered prints as an easy purchase when I shopped during shop hops. Each block has 20 different fabrics (ideally). But the reality was that I was forced to repeat some patterns in some blocks. I held everything together with the purple. This quilt makes me feel like it's a basket of flowers. I made this for a baby girl. I got brave and did some complex free motion quilting. The good news is that it is nearly invisible. I didn't use a pattern but based the design on a quilt I saw a photo of. It took 1/2 jelly roll of pink and 1/2 of white.

My first quilt!

Started quilting the end of Jan 2017! I had purchased material and pattern for making a quilt 20 years ago, went as far as getting all the pieces cut out. Then my life turned upside down. It took me 20 years to get it "pieced" back together! (pun intended) I started sewing and simply got hooked! I wish I had know back then how much I would love quilting! Charm Square Crosses

This quilt was designed and sewn by my daughter as her first quilt project. She used 4 charm packs I had ordered for her to do a different pattern with, but instead she designed this pattern. She let me quilt it in any style I wished and gave me permission to experiment. I had quilting rulers for my longarm, but hadn't tried to use them.
